How to split PDF files
Split a PDF into separate files or extract specific pages. Free, in-browser. No upload needed.
Why split a PDF?
Splitting helps you reduce what’s shared, simplify review, and deliver only the pages that matter. Instead of sending an entire report, you can extract the relevant section, keep the pages in the right order, and download a smaller PDF.
Splits are also useful for cleanup: if a document contains rotated scans or mixed page formats, you can reorder and rotate while extracting.
Privacy-first splitting (runs in your browser)
When you split PDFs with PleaseFixMyPDF, everything runs locally in your browser. That means your file stays on your device and your extracted output is generated for download without uploading to a server.
This is especially valuable for contracts, agreements, and internal documents where you don’t want third parties handling your source file.

Step-by-step: extract specific pages
Step 1: Open the Split PDF tool and upload your PDF.
Step 2: Choose your extraction mode. In select mode, click thumbnails to choose which pages you want. In range mode, enter ranges like `1-5, 8, 12-15` for quick selection.
Step 3: (Optional) reorder and rotate. Drag pages into the sequence you want, and rotate pages when a scan is sideways.
Step 4: Download the extracted PDF. The output contains exactly the pages you selected, in the order you prepared.
Reordering and rotation during extraction
Most “split” tools only extract pages but ignore page presentation. With PleaseFixMyPDF, you can reorder pages and apply rotations during splitting—so you get a final document that’s easy to read, not just a raw extracted subset.
Use cases (real people, real needs)
Students split exam packets and lecture notes to focus on specific topics. Instead of emailing a huge file, they extract only the chapters they need.
Accountants split receipts and bank statements to create smaller evidence packs for a monthly report.
Businesses split contracts to share specific sections with legal, partners, or customers—without exposing the entire document.
Pro tip: faster batch workflows
If you split PDFs regularly (for example, many monthly submissions), Pro supports batch-friendly workflows so you can process multiple documents without friction.

After splitting: what next?
After you extract pages, the next step is often to merge the extracted pieces back into a new, final packet—or compress to meet email and portal upload limits.
If you’re splitting a large merged PDF into smaller sections, you can keep the workflow clean: merge → split → compress, all while staying private.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I extract a range of pages from a PDF?
- Yes. Select individual pages or enter ranges (e.g. 1–5, 8, 12–15). You can download the extracted output based on your selection.
- Do I need to upload my PDF to split it?
- No. PleaseFixMyPDF runs in your browser. Your PDF is processed locally and never sent to our servers.
- Can I reorder pages while splitting?
- Yes. You can drag thumbnails into your preferred order, rotate pages if needed, and then download the final extracted PDF.
- What if I want to remove pages (instead of extracting)?
- You can delete unwanted pages (using the delete controls) and download the remaining pages. This produces a similar result to “deleting” while still keeping the workflow in your browser.
